Aligning Text and Images in PowerPoint Exports

Text boxes and images in Displayr are generally aligned correctly when your document is exported as a file to PowerPoint. The only circumstances where you may see differences between Displayr and PowerPoint is when you have a text box in Displayr with many lines of text. This is because your web browser and PowerPoint layout text differently, even given the same font size and line height.

In order to achieve consistent alignment between Displayr and PowerPoint:

  1. Choose a font that will be available on the computer that will open the PowerPoint presentation. Displayr's default font, Open Sans, may not be available - so choose another font such as Arial that is installed on most computers (Windows PCs and Macs).
  2. Choose a larger font size - 12 or above. Smaller font sizes cause more differences due to rounding errors, as web browsers have to round down or round up the font sizes (in points) to pixel values, and PowerPoint rounds these font sizes differently.
  3. If you notice sentences wrapping onto new lines differently compared between Displayr and PowerPoint, try adjusting the width of the text box in Displayr to cause a change in the wrapping and re-export to PowerPoint until they match. Web browsers and PowerPoint have different character widths. Though the difference in character widths is small, the difference is over-pronounced in words with lots of characters, and when these appear at the end of a line they may force the line to wrap differently.
  4. If none of these steps have made the PowerPoint presentation consistent with Displayr, the remaining option is to move each paragraph of text (or for more control, each line of text) from your text box into a separate text box in Displayr. This ensures any discrepancies with PowerPoint's text layout is constrained to the single paragraph or line of text, rather than accumulating over the entire text box.
